Real Stories, Real Success:
Finding the Tools to Give Back to the Community

RSRS Mariet Ostos

Mariet Ostos came to the United States from Venezuela at the age of 19.  She was four months pregnant with no English skills, no family, and only $1000 to her name.

Through the difficult process of getting acclimated to an entirely new life, Mariet always kept her focus on what she wanted her life to look like in 5, 10, or 15 years.  With her focus set on what she wanted in the future, she could use any job, even if she didn’t like it, as a trampoline to catapult her toward that dream.

In her time in the U.S., she has built her life into an amazing vehicle to give back to her community, which is her overarching focus.

She had read a few of John Maxwell’s books before joining the John Maxwell Team and has found her involvement with the Team to have truly helped her confidence in public speaking. It has also given her the tools to grow herself and, therefore, give back to her community.

Mariet has noticed the need for business owners in her area to find a person they can trust who will add value to them and help them grow.  Mariet strives to be that person for them.

After earning her John Maxwell Team certification, she created a 10-week course about John’s book The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.  “When I decided I would create this course,” she says, “I was so nervous and anxious because this was my first time doing something like this.  But it was my dream, and I took action.”

Mariet will truly never forget that first class, calling it the most wonderful experience she has ever had.  Being able to hear about the changes that her clients have experienced after taking her courses has been amazing for her.  She loves to speak to people who have lost faith and show them that, “if they have the right tools, they can get whatever they want.”

Mariet emphasizes, though, that you have to be clear on exactly what you want.  From there, you have to prepare yourself with the best, which was why she joined the John Maxwell Team and hasn’t looked back.

“When you have the future clear,” she believes, “nothing can stop you.”

That’s why, even still, Mariet always stops to remember who she is and where she wants to be.  And each step she takes helps get her there.
